Friends Book Sale Oct 1-3

September 10, 2010

The biggest Library Friends Book Sale yet will take place Oct. 1–3 at the Main Library in downtown Durham. For the last six months, since April’s book sale, 20 Friends volunteers have been sorting, pricing and categorizing thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and audio books for this sale.

Donations have poured into all library locations, especially the two new regional libraries in South Durham. To keep up with the generosity of the Durham community, volunteers worked in the library garage every week during this summer of record high temperatures.

Most books at the Friends Book Sales are donated and many are in gift-giving condition. Friends volunteers examine every item to make sure it is in good condition for sale.

You can help the Friends and the library by donating your gently used (free of damage, dirt, mold, rot and excessive markings) books, CDs, DVDs and audio books. One small box or bag is welcome at any library. Large donations may be brought to the Main Library on Tuesday mornings when the Friends are sorting and can help unload.

Your Friends membership also supports the work of the Friends for the Durham County Library. More information about the Friends is at, or call Library/Friends Liaison Anastasia Bush at 919-560-0190.
